Este viernes en No Retornable es el turno de Quadrophenia, un disco tremendo de la banda inglesa The Who del año 1973, considerado por muchos como su mejor placa. El disco es largo y bellisimo por lo que este viernes tendrá lugar el disco uno. Así es, una opera rock con todo, y un programa también con todo: análisis, letras, argumentos, historias, fichas técnicas y todas esas cosas como solo No Retornable puede contártelo.

Esta es la filmación del primer show de la parte americana de la gira de Quadrophenia en el Cow Palace en San Francisco, California. Keith Moon, quien habia consumido calmates que no eran precisamente para "humanos", termina desmayandose y tiene que ser reemplazado por una persona del público (Scott Halpin) que se animó a reemplazar justamente a Keith Moon en un concierto del que hasta minutos antes sólo era espectador. El sueño del pibe...

En el año 1989 Lou Reed edita New York...

Un disco que quiebra lo que hasta entonces era su linea discográfica de los años 80. Dijo él mismo una vez que este disco debiera ser escuhado como quien lee las páginas de un libro más que como un disco en sí, y no es porque hasta entonces las letras de Reed no estuviesen salpicadas de realidad, sólo que se mete como nunca en el corazón de New York, ciudad que tan bien conoce y nos regala estas 14 gemas. Además claro está noticias, música y todo lo que no puede dejar de haber un sábado a la noche donde las temperaturas nos hierven......y sí, por lo general en verano hace calor.

En Abril de 1962 un músico extraordinario, un extraterrestre, un genio demostraba que los ciudadanos afroamericanos podían meterse con la llamada, hasta entonces, música blanca. Pero fue en 1962 cuando, luego de terminar con la discográfica Atlantic, arremete grabando un disco de música del "oeste" como era llamada hasta el momento, considerada música de vaqueros, desesperando así a la sociedad norteamericana en su conjunto con un disco que consta de canciones, en su mayoría de otros autores, covers como podriamos decir hoy. El disco se llama: Modern Sounds in Country and Western.

La gran BANDA

En este episodio de No Retornable... habrá rock, como siempre, pero en lo personal vamos a darnos un gusto que siempre quisimos y por una cosa u otra nunca llegábamos a hacerlo, y es presentar un disco de una banda que nosotros consideramos de las más sublimes y menos mencionadas y escuchadas de todas. La banda es The Band, y su disco es The Band, del año 1969.

Comenzaron acompañando a Ronnie Hawkins, por quien fueron bautizados como The Hawks, hasta se vuelven del círculo íntimo de Bob Dylan, con quien terminan grabando discos desde 1966 a 1969, siendo rebautizados como The Band. ¿Qué decirles del disco? Que lo escuchen. Que escuchen el programa. El disco es una perla. Y este programa quiere convidárselos... Además claro... noticias, música, películas, algún pirata, y todas esas cosas que conforman el rock como forma de vida.

Este programa en No Retornable... el segundo disco de una banda, más que influyente en muchas otras, que quizás han seguido su legado sin saberlo. Joy Division en el año 1980 sacaba su segunda placa Closer.

Liderados por un GRAN letrista, el señor Ian Curtis, fueron siempre una gran promesa a punto de estallar en la era post punk, de finales de los 70 y principios de los 80. Pero la epilepsia y algunas otras combinaciones más, como un disco de Iggy Pop, hicieron de Closer, el último de esta formación y por qué no, su testamento... Además, algo de Noise Rock, Crónicas de shows, y todo lo demás que no puede dejar de haber en No Retorable un Sábado 5 de diciembre como este...

Los Comienzos de una Gran Década

No Retornable se pone sus camperas de cuero y decide viajar a los suburbios de la primera mitad de los años 60, sí, la antesala del hippiesmo, antes de que el cuero fuese el emblema de los pantalones de Jim Morrison. La fiebre de James Dean todavía circundaba el ideal colectivo, y en el inconsciente comenzaban a rodar las primeras grandes canciones que demostrarían porqué la década de 1960. Cavernas, Clubes, Motos, Flores (algunas), Equipos valvulares, Guitarras Standard, y por sobre todas las cosas: canciones. La experimentación era la canción en sí, el desafío de poder contar una historia en una canción, la sensación liberarse en esos acordes y sentirse protagonista de las canciones de amor...

En este programa de No Retornable un disco de Charly Garcia formado varios por temas que quedaron afuera de las placas anteriores a ésta, incluso hasta de Sui Generis y La Máquina de hacer Pájaros. El disco en cuestión: Cómo conseguir chicas del año 1989.

Hay que ponerle ese nombre a un LP, pero quién sino Garcia para hacerlo y en qué década sino la de los 80, con temas bailables y melodías de exportación, un disco que no se revisa mucho pero que si se lo escucha es de una calidad suprema que continúa la segunda parte de la carrera solista que arrancó en 1987 con Parte de la Religión y que luego sellará en 1990 con Filosfía Barata y Zapatos de Goma... Tenemos muchas perlas de este disco... y algunas otras cosas más...

Paseo por el Pais de las Maravillas

En este programa, No Retornable justificará por qué no sólo el rock es un camino de ida, sino también la literatura. Así es, este sábado un temático, y el temático es el nombre de una niña llamada Alicia.

El 4 de Julio de 1862, Lewis Carroll, así al menos lo conocemos nosotros, navegaba junto a un adulto más y tres niñas en un bote. Ya cansado de hacerles adivinanzas y juegos de ingenio a las pequeñas se decidió por empezar una historia que tenía como protagonista a Alicia, una de las tres hermanas Liddell. En 1865 la historia que anteriormente se llamó "Las aventuras de Alicia en el Mundo Subterráneo", pasó a ser finalmente "Alicia en le País de las Maravillas" tal como la conocemos hasta el día de hoy... Incluso en 1872 Carroll, ya decidido a explotar toda su capacidad narrativa hizo ver la luz a la segunda parte llamada "A través del Espejo". Uds. después de todo esto dirán qué tiene que ver todo esto con No Retornable y con el rock ¿No? Bueno... para empezar podríamos empezar por contáserlos por aquí, pero la verdad es que si quieren saber habrá que seguir al conejo blanco en este programa.

Cuando un músico tiene un gran exito, generalmente se le abren dos caminos: o seguir con la fórmula recién descubierta, o sea, jugar a lo seguro, o pegar un giro de 180 grados y aprovechar el éxito y jugarse por lo que realmente siente. Cuando Lou Reed aprovechó el suceso de Transformer, optó por la segunda opción y el resultado fue Berlin:

Uno de los discos más oscuros del rock... o al menos así se lo presenta siempre. Escuchandolo puede que las letras lo sean. Así de simples eran los títulos de sus cuatro primeros discos. Lo que no era para nada simple era la música que había dentro del álbum. Este programa con nos metemos de lleno en Led Zeppelin III:

En este caso la tercera no fue la vencida sino la cambiante. Un disco que da un giro brusco a lo que la gente esperaba de la banda y que prueba que estos chicos no eran solamente rock duro sino músicos hechos y derechos.

Muy buenas letras, mucha guitarra, mucho folk y blues, incluso mitología en este disco de una de las bandas más importantes de los 70's.

En el año 1990 el Grunge estaba sobrevolando los aires del mundo, Seattle estaba por darle al mundo su grito de guerra, el canto de una generación que daría lugar al último mártir del Rock. En ese mismo lugar, estaba Alice In Chains, la banda comandada por Layne Staley en la voz, y Jerry Cantrell en la guitarra como una alternativa al rock que todavía, estaba en una nebulosa. Es en ese momento que debutan con el LP Facelift:

Una cara estirada, deformada, destila color. Un disco con muchos matices y el desencanto característico de la década del 90. La sentencia en canciones como We Die Young, Put You Down.El escepticismo puede escucharse en Love, Hate, Love, Confusion o Sea Of Sorrow. Facelift, un disco que quizás en la generalidad no sea tan influyente, pero quizás haya que tomarlo como, un punto de partida, para bandas como Pearl Jam, Jane´s Addiction, Soundgarden y Blind Melon entre otras…
